Hi everyone! Thought I should share this with you…Since last weeks’ blog entry, I’ve received the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board magazine for fall/winter courses. There are plenty of belly dance classes being offered at various community centres and high schools, listed on page 25. So, if you’d like to choose a different class, this will give you some options…although I’d love to have you come and dance with me!! To access the courses in the magazine, go to: http://www.ocdsb.ca/continuweb If you have any questions about these classes/instructors, contact me here, and I’ll do my best to help you select the class that may work best for you…they’re all good!!

Greetings All: Just received my copy of the new Fall/Winter course catalogue from the Canterbury Community Association. Check out their website at: www.cca-acc.ca and on page 14, you’ll find course descriptions and dates for my fall classes…jeepers, summer’s nearly over!! I’ve also included this information on my “Classes” page, so you can read all about it. Got questions? Feel free to contact me here by clicking above my photo on the top left corner of this page, and I’ll be happy to help. You may also wish to browse other teacher listings on Halyma’s fabulous website at: www.tav-creations.com She’ll be updating her list as local teachers receive their class assignments in the coming weeks. There’ll be classes all over the Ottawa area to consider, so you can find one that suits your busy lifestyle, level, and budget…so start thinking about having some fun with fitness for fall, okay? Bye for now!

Happy August, everyone! The Olympics are in full swing, and my lawn is crispy yellow. Just wanted to stop by and share a couple of photos taken at the recent Summer Sizzle charity event. We were all excited to have a professional photographer on hand, www.unposed.com who set up a mini-studio at the theatre. We got to take turns, individually and in groups, to ham it up in front of Robin’s camera, with some really fun results. I plan to order some prints of these images from Unposed Photography for my Mom…thanks, Robin!![Studio088Web[1]](https://fatcatbellydance.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/studio088web1.jpg?w=300&h=266)

My fancy foot bling was custom made by a lovely lady from Montreal, Sylvie Briand..cute, eh? My silk veil is a custom-creation by www.shiboriborealis.com During our performance, my veil got twisted..ooops!..these things happen…But I managed to keep from freaking out and ignored it, and sure enough, after a couple more moves, it unfurled by itself, and sailed properly for the rest of the choreography; so my advice to all you new dancers….just smile and carry on..it’ll be okay!! I was lucky enough to get to watch some other performers, and saw a wonderful mix of dance styles – Bollywood, Salsa, Lebanese Debke, Ballet, Tap, and of course, Belly Dance..it was a great experience, and I’d like to thank Catherine Crerar and my beloved teacher, Safiya, for giving me the opportunity to be part of the show. If you have any questions about upcoming classes for fall, or would like to plan a private or group lesson, please contact me here at fatcatbellydance@gmail.com Bye for now!!

Hello Everyone…hot enough for ya? Jeepers, my poor lawn and garden are looking very sad these days. Just wanted to drop a few lines so no one will think I’ve abandoned my website. Had a terrifc time at the Dance With Alana’s “Our Little Show”, and nervously looking forward to performing a veil dance with Safiya at the upcoming Summer Sizzle on Saturday.
I’ve been able to arrange a one-time class for some of my students, the Amala Group, on Friday, July 20th, at 12:30 p.m., at the Intelligent Fitness Studio, located at 12 Castlegreen Private. If the ladies enjoy the facility, perhaps we may hold a couple more during the summer months. If anyone else would like to consider having a private or group lesson, please contact me here, and I’ll book us a time in the studio, at a VERY reasonable price. Gotta run for now…and practice, practice, practice!!

It’s been a very busy week, with two performances and final classes. I’d like to thank all my lovely students for making the spring session so much fun, and let you all know how proud I am of your accomplishments. Last Sunday, an impressive array of dancers came out to shimmy and support the Breast Cancer Action fundraiser, and I was especially touched to have several Canterbury divas there, to try performing in public…they were awesome! On Wednesday, I was honoured to perform with classmates at Halyma’s Ottawa Centre Class Party. I will be posting info on my Events page for upcoming shows, and summer workshop-style classes…stay tuned! For now, I plan to enjoy a lazy Sunday. Here are a few photos from the past week. Oh my goodness, it’s been so busy these last few weeks, I’ve neglected this blog page shamefully!! Hmmm..let’s see…classes for the spring session will be ending the week of June 11th. The students have all been working very hard, learning their isolation moves, and I’m very happy to be teaching them an original choreography..good job, ladies!! I was hoping to host another class party, but circumstances prevent this event from taking place…booo! Next time, for sure! No summer classes are scheduled yet; I’ll keep you posted…
Upcoming events include the Manulife “Stroll For Our Goal” outdoor fundraiser on Sunday, June 10th, Halyma’s Ottawa Centre Class Party, on Wednesday, June 13th, and Emilie’s Run, on Saturday, June 23rd. There are a couple more shows coming up in July…I will post details on the Events page as I get the information. Bye for now!

After a great week of classes, my weekend is getting very busy! On Saturday, I’ll be learning some cool new stuff at a veil workshop, being taught by my my lovely friend Eurika, (she’s profiled on my ‘Divas’ page). Sunday morning will see a group of us at the Hike For Hospice fundraising event, to entertain and support the participants. Sunday afternoon, I’ll be attending an open-house at the brand new Intelligent Fitness Studio . I’m very excited because they’ve hired me for a six-week session, to teach beginners. Classes will start Wednesday, May 16th, at 7:30 p.m. For information about the open-house and studio fitness program, check out their website at: www.intelligentfitness.ca Have a fun weekend everybody!!

Taking a moment to count my blessings at having such a rewarding job…It’s been a very busy couple of weeks since classes started, and I’m so pleased to be back teaching. Despite a few minor dramas and glitches – it’s all good!
The Bayshore class for newcomers to Canada is a talented, high-spirited group, and I must confess, testing the limits of my knowledge and abilities. They’ll have a treat tomorrow…a special guest instructor, as I introduce them to the incomparable Vera, who is profiled on my Diva page. She has graciously offered to help out, and will certainly challenge the ladies with her subtle, creative style; while mentoring me to adapt to the unique requirements for instructing Middle-Eastern students. I always appreciate the chance to learn new stuff that will (hopefully) make me a better teacher!
Class size at Canterbury has increased since registration, and these ladies are eager to learn; showing remarkable progress. I’m happy to work with such an enthusiastic group, and forsee a brand new custom choreography in their future!
The new Maplesoft Centre is a lovely facility for the BCA group, Amala, and I’m grateful to be permitted to hold classes there, with these courageous, fun-loving gals. They make Fridays fantastic!

Hello Everyone! Registration for spring classes at Canterbury Community Centre is ongoing this week; so far, I have enough students signed up to run my level one class on Tuesday nights. If you’re thinking about taking a class, now is a great time to register – all the info is listed on my Classes Page. I’m looking forward to next Tuesday night! This session will be busy, as I’m teaching the Newcomers To Canada group twice weekly, and the Breast Cancer Action group on Fridays. Plus, I’m taking an intermediate class taught by the lovely and talented Safiya, at the Dance With Alana Studio on Monday nights. Recently, I was invited to teach a demonstration class at Greenboro Community Centre, to gauge interest for a possible Fall Session. To my amazement, at least 40 participants showed up, ready to dance…it was a little intimidating, facing that many ladies, but we shimmied and shook, and had a blast! Who knows, this may lead to a new teaching challenge in September…gotta run for now…lesson plans to prep!
